Lucky Pig

Sunday, August 28th, 2005

Announcing Lucky Pig, the next new exciting event in my calendar.
Myself and three suspiciously insane ladies have decided to pool our creative juices to become Team Lucky Pig.

Team Lucky Pig is:
Violet Cooper “the tree-stump girl”, rescued from a life living in a hollow tree stump to become one of the wittiest painting and multimedia artists this side of the black swamp;
Marie Littlewood “brrrp”, the brains behind fascinating ‘pants’;
Jeni Lee aka “the changeling”, makes a foray into a land of dressing up and telling tales;
and myself, Aurelia “otaku” Carbone, still confused about where imagination ends and the real world begins.

The first Lucky Pig event will be held at FAD, 30 Waymouth Street, Adelaide (that’s in Australia for all yon readers from foreign lands) on Friday the 9th of September from 6pm onwards. Evidence of our dalliance will be on show until the 11th of October.

“what the sh!t is a water prize?”

Monday, August 15th, 2005

The remarkable Chusan, a monk of Kofukuji in Nara, was said by some to be supernatural. People believed he had actually been born from a stream.

Once Chusan and several companions set off in a time of terrible drought on a pilgrimage to the East. Even the springs which never failed had all gone dry, and many people were dying of thirst and starvation. People came from far off to get water from one spring in Omi province which still ran clear and sweet. When a woman on her way back from this spring, with a jar of water on her head, passed Chusan on the trail, he asked her for a drink.

“You’re a proper holy man,” she answered. “Why don’t you make a spring right here and get your drink yourself? I’ve carried this water a long way and I’ve a lot farther to go. I do’t see why you should have to beg any off me!”

“You’re right,” said Chusan, “I’ll do that.” He strode to a rock on the hillside, drew his sword, and struck off a chunk. Clear, cool water gushed out. The local people were amazed at their new spring.

Aurelia won the Splitrock Prize (AKA: the water prize) for her really great shew! Whee.

15 minutes of superstar

…48 hours later my feet have just found the floor. The opening was so much fun. Of course, I was nervous for days and days beforehand, putting the last little details together about 45 minutes before the show was going to open and trying to be quick so that the early birds wouldn’t notice. 8)

The Rhino Room is a pretty funky gallery space, ne?

So many lovely people came to see the show and be supportive. You know who you are! Thank you so much! :bunny:

I was all over warm and fuzzy for the entire evening; with a brief period of being a delicate shade of beetroot after Mark Kimber gave the opening speech.

Mark Kimber & Aurelia Carbone

Mark was very generous in his praise. I think we are both excited about the Mentorship program. I know I am.

Dear Delana and Brian were coerced into serving drinks for the evening. Somehow Brian managed to take photographs too. He’s a champ. Delana was effervescenly fabulous, with just a little help from the rosé.

Thank you very very much Kym Pilkington of Wirra Wirra Vineyards and Nigel Thomas of Decant Wines for your tasty support.

Here’s a cute fun thing – a day before we hung the show I found a lovely review of my work online – Adelaide Citysearch has given my show a plug on their website. Thank you very much Lynda Allen for that beautiful press release, I can only imagine that’s how Master Andrew P. Street formed such a good opinion before the pictures were on the wall.

The day after the openingurban love story was included in the SALA East End walking tour. The turnout for the tour was great and I was asked lots of lovely questions. There’s been such an overwhelmingly positive response so far, I must be glowing.
