Nikki Marcel of Radio Adelaide has invited Aurelia to speak about her work with anamorphosis and photography on Radio Adelaide's Arts Breakfast program. Tune in to hear how Aurelia makes her anamorphic images and also how she uses the camera to find the "sweet spot" that captures the optical illusion on film. If you live outside the Adelaide area it is possible to listen to the online broadcast.
brainstorm anamorphic installation - Level 4 Kaurna Building, City West Campus, University of South Australia
Aurelia's large scale installation brainstorm has recently been completed in the stairwell of the Kaurna Building at the University of South Australia. brainstorm is part of the "Little Interventions" series of installations curated by Mary Knights and Keith Giles. Visit Levels 4 & 5 to experience an anamorphic optical illusion! Kaurna Building is open to the public during business hours on weekdays. The installation was completed with the generous assistance of Delana Carbone and support from Natalie Zappia of Nightowl Design.
Pingyao International Photography Festival 2011, Pingyao China, September 18th - 26th 2011
Aurelia is one of six talented South Australians to have her work selected to be part of the Pingyao International Photography Festival in September 2011.
Work from Aurelia's series Honest Magic will be on exhibition at the largest international photography event of the year. The PIP festival has been held annually since 2001 and attracts over 200 000 visitors. The festival is held in the ancient walled city of Pingyao, a World Heritage listed site. Aurelia and three other emerging photographic artists are the recipients of a Helpmann Academy grant, enabling them to travel to China for the event. Read more about the project.
Craftsouth: Wish List 2011
Chimera's Ball has been selected as the winner of the 2D Prize of the Wish List 2011 exhibition at Craftsouth! The exhibition opens on Friday the 12th of August at 6pm and continues through the SALA Festival, concluding on Thursday the 8th of September. Craftsouth's new premises is at Level 1, 38 Hindley Street, Adelaide. Come see the show and please remember to make a nomination for the People's Choice Award.
The Shadow Box: a pinhole photography exhibition for One Night Only
For One Night Only, Wednesday the 27th April 2011, 6pm-9pm @ Liverpool Street Gallery, Adelaide. Thirteen artists turn back the photographic clock in this exhibition, well past dinky toy cameras and 80s Polaroids to pinhole photography. Pinhole cameras can be constructed from almost anything - Aurelia uses an old biscuit tin to create a series of silhouettes titled The Abridged Adventures of Raoul Rodriguez, Punk Rock Rabbit.
